The last monorail ride at Midtown Plaza
The girls had a chance to ride the Monorail at Midtown plaza last week on December 24th. The Monorail was shut down immediately after that and it looks like it was the last time they will have it at Midtown Plaza as we know it.
Maybe the next iteration of that area will have something similar in honor of this landmark holiday treat, or maybe it will just be a memory of another time for those of us who had the chance to ride it.

I just don't get it...
I'm sitting at home trying to do some work and finally when I finish, I just want to shut down my Windows XP PC and close up for the night. Sounds simple enough right? Wrong!!! I have a brand spankin new Windows XP SP2 Compaq 2510p laptop with 2 gigs of Ram - plenty of horsepower to handle anything I can dish out, right? Wrong again! It seems that my timesheets and simple web applications were too much too handle for the poor thing and when it came time to close it's eyes for the night and go to sleep, it wasn't having any of it!
I have been using Windows and Macintosh since the early 90's and for the life of me, I still can't figure out why Windows remains so successful. I just don't understand why people put up with it. If this were any other appliance in your home, you'd be back to the manufacturer in a heartbeat wanting your money back in an instant. I understand that computers are much more complicated, but TV's, DVR's and Cell phones and the myriad of other technology we deal with is becoming just as complicated without the same perils. Cars are pretty complicated and if you went to turn it off and it decided not to, you wouldn't stand for it!
Sigh...
OK, I am going to go calm down now... this is quickly becoming my "why Mac is better than Windows blog". Not my initial intention.

iCal support on my iPod Touch - Finally!
OK, for those of you who don't know this about me, I am a super Apple Computer geek and I pretty much do and buy whatever it is that Steve Jobs tells me to do (and buy). It's worked out pretty well so far and I feel that I have the coolest, most creative, easiest to use and certainly most reliable Computer on the the block. As my iPod is an extension of my computer with all my electronic media on it, I of course had to get the latest version of the iPod called the "iPod Touch". Up to this point, it was merely the coolest iPod ever created with all of my music, pictures, movies, TV shows and podcasts all on one super elegant device. Oh, and did I mention full web browsing via Wi-Fi? It also has this new "Multi-touch" technology that lets you use two fingers (called the "pinch" technique) to zoom in and move your pictures around on screen, which may not sound all that cool, but when you see it in action it really is a one-of-a-kind feature at this point.
OK, ok... you get my point. My iPod is cool. The only problem with it to this point is that it did not have the ability for you to add iCal (Calendar) events on the device itself. You had to use the Mac to add the event and then plug the iPod in to transfer any calendar events over. This was very disappointing and for a moment, I actually considered not getting one of these. Well, I'm thrilled to report that as of today's new firmware update, I can now add iCal items on my iPod, which means that in additional to being the greatest iPod ever created (not counting the iPhone), it is also the coolest PDA on the planet!
And he lived happily ever after.

We survived the sleepover, just barely
Well, Alex had her 9 school chums over last night for games, a movie and a sleepover. All but one slept over and I only wish it were the other way around. Most of them were good when bed time came, but three of them (including the birthday girl) wouldn't go to sleep. So at 1am, Dad did what he hoped he would not have to do. I separated the three "night owls" from the rest of the group and each other, then I sat there like a prison guard and waited for them to fall asleep.
Of course, they were all up at 7 ish for donuts. I think next year will be something other than a sleepover party!

Trying to survive Birthday-thon '07
One more party to go for Alex and her 8 friends and then we can put the Levy girl's Birthdays to bed for 2007. A party for one side of the family, a party for the other side of the family and of course a party for all of Alex's school friends... whew!
I think I am going to need to celebrate the end of all the celebrations.

Ooooo, Spooky!
Since the leaves are changing, I decided to bring my camera in the car with me for work in case I catch some good scenery. On my way back from Geneva on "Country Road #4" I spotted this gem of a dilapidated old house and had to grab a shot.
I'm also a sucker for cheap effects (hence my Las Vegas fascination) so I "sepia toned" it up a bit to give it that extra old and creepy look. Enjoy!

I'm not really sure how this happened...
OK, so on my recent trip to Las Vegas with the boys, I somehow ended up wearing the flight attendants apron and went up and down the aisle collecting garbage. That pretty much set the tone for the entire trip.
Here's a link to some of the pictures from the trip. Please note, these pictures may (do) contain imagery of mild alcohol consumption and vulgar hand gestures. Viewer discretion is advised.

Love at first sight!
Apple announced the new iPod touch today and I am completely smitten! When they announced the iPhone earlier this year, I was not excited at all since mobile phone service isn't something that I worry about (thank you FedEx). I kept saying that I just want an iPhone without the phone. My prayers have been answered! The iPod Touch has built-in wifi and the same state-of-the-art interface as the iPhone. It comes out at the end of the month and I am going to be the first kid on the block to sport one!

Seabreeze 2007
Took the girls to Seabeeze last Saturday for a little fun in the sun! It was a little too chilly to do the water rides, but Alex and Sam had a great time on the rides. Sam even went on her first "big kid" ride, the Teacups!
Check out the rest of the pictures here.

Just like Daddy!
Now Sam and Daddy will have matching scars on our chins! Sam took a spill at daycare and had to have 7 stitches in her chin. The fall was bad, but she was ok after a few minutes and an ice-pop. Having the stitches put in was another story... it was an experience she will likely forget, but Mom and Dad will not for quite a while!

Don't Mess with the NYS!!!
OK, so I was going a couple miles-an-hour over the speed limit in the 20mph EZ Pass lane and the NYS Thruway Authority suspended my EZ Pass until August! I was going 24 in a 20 mph lane... big deal right??? Well I guess it is because I got a letter from NYS telling me I had to take my EZ Pass out of my car and drive through the ticket booths now like a shnook! Grrrrrrrrrr

Sanjaya
OK, so I voted 3 times for Sanjaya on American Idol last night! What's the big deal?
Yes, he's horrible, but he's so entertaining and the sad truth is that even the good ones on the show this season are terrible. No, I don't think it's going to skew the numbers overall in the show and cause the better singers to suffer. If they are good, they will still win. It's just nice to at least have something (Sanjaya) entertaining on the show!
